Principles and Fundamentals:
Thursday, 7:00pm - 8:30pm, Saturday 10:30am - Noon
This class provides the skills and knowledge necessary for all of the forms we study. It focuses on the first half of the Yang Style Sohn Short form of T'ai Chi with time spent on stretches and exercises to tone the body and enhance balance and centering in both mind and body. Students who wish to move on to other classes must be able to demonstrate these basic principles by performing the first half of the Yang Style Sohn Short Form to the satisfaction of the instructors.
There is no "starting" class date, so any Principles and Fundamentals class may be attended for a "first session".
Advanced Studies:
Wednesday 10:30 - 11:30am, Thursday 6:00 - 7:00pm
This class takes the T'ai Chi form beyond the first half and introduces other Qi Gong sets. It is an integrated class with students at all knowledge and skill levels. The knowledge and capabilities learned here are so important that students who attend more advanced classes must attend at least 6 consecutive sessions of this class each year in order to stay eligible for other classes.
Complementary-Supplementary:
Saturday,1:30pm – 3:00pm per calendar only
One of our guiding tenets is that the principles learned and practiced in T'ai Chi apply to and are part of many other disciplines, so that all these skills and knowledge complement each other. This class takes this belief to a new level by studying the principles and fundamentals as they appear in other Martial Arts, Yoga, and even the practice of Chinese and Japanese Calligraphy. A firm foundation grounded in the lessons of the Principles and Fundamentals and Advanced Studies classes is necessary to this class. As noted above, therefore, students wishing to attend these Complementary-Supplementary classes must attend at least 6 consecutive sessions of the Advanced Studies class per year to remain eligible.
